-The King has returned-
Elvis Presley Jailhouse Rock Retro Poster
Using Photoshop I created the above retro poster which is an advertisement for the Jailhouse Rock film.
How to create this effect...
- Open images in Photoshop (one must be a plain image of a crumpled piece of paper)
- Starting with the crumpled paper image, select image-adjustments-colour balance and change the colour to the desired tone. (mine was yellow)
- By opening an image with a bursting line pattern, select one coloured section to drag onto your base layer (the crumpled paper)
Then change the colour of the bursting lines to a slightly darker one than the original.
- Use the eraser tool on a low flow and opacity (with a soft edge) to slightly erase the bottom edges of the bursting lines to create a soft gradient.
- Finding images of a jail cell door, use the quick selection tool to select only the door, then click and drag it onto your working layer. Once in the working layer, scale and rotate it to where it is desired.
- Opening up an image of Elvis or another figure, delete the background by only selecting the figure, then selecting 'select' and 'inverse' then press 'ctrl' and 'backspace' to delete the background.
- Refine the edge of the figure and drag into working layer, then copy twice more and change the colour of each figure. (one black and two red)
- Selecting the figures together, turn down the opacity of their layers slightly.
- Insert the desired text and change the font to one which idealises the retro feel.
- For the title of the poster, duplicate the layer of text so you have 3 in total, then change the colour and arrange them so they create an effective layered text.
- Finally adjust any other images and texts to the desired colour and scale.
